🛋️ Furniture moving built on nine years of experience

I am Adrian, and over the last nine years I have moved furniture throughout the West Midlands. That includes smaller collections, full rooms of belongings, awkward sofas and heavy household items. Each job teaches you that the distance is only one part of the work.

A sofa may look manageable in a photograph but have a heavy reclining mechanism underneath. A wardrobe might fit inside the van but not turn through the hallway. My approach is to assess the furniture, the route out and the entrance at delivery before deciding how to handle the move.

You deal directly with me about the booking. I ask about dimensions, stairs, parking and available help because those details influence the price and the moving plan. The aim is a straightforward service with realistic arrangements from the start.

📍 Recent job: Bromsgrove to Dudley DY5

One recent booking involved transporting a set of electric recliner sofas from Bromsgrove to the Dudley area, DY5. The furniture was from Cosmo’s. Recliners need particular attention because their frames, motors and moving components can make them heavier than an ordinary sofa.

There were two of us on this job, which allowed us to manage the furniture together. The move went normally, with the team and vehicle suited to the work. It was a useful example of why I do not treat a recliner collection as automatically equivalent to moving a lightweight two-seater.

If you have electric reclining furniture, send photographs of the complete set and explain whether any backs or sections are designed to detach. Tell me about cables, separate power units and access at both properties so we can plan appropriately.

🛏️ Another job: Walsall to Kidderminster

On a different day, we moved a five-seat Sofology corner sofa bed from Walsall to Kidderminster. This was a separate booking from the Bromsgrove recliner move. Again, two people attended and the work went smoothly.

A large corner sofa bed combines several practical considerations: the shape of the corner sections, the space needed to manoeuvre and the additional weight of the bed mechanism. Planning around those features is more useful than assuming the number of seats tells you everything.

We can discuss suitable Sofology furniture collections and transport, including sofas bought second-hand. Tell us where the furniture is being collected and whether the owner has checked removable sections. This is our independent transport service, rather than a retailer’s own delivery booking.

📦 What furniture can we move?

Our furniture removals service covers suitable items for homes, shared accommodation and workplaces. You might need one large piece moved across Birmingham or several items transported between towns. Send the full list so we can assess the load properly.

  • Sofas and seating: corner sofas, recliners, armchairs and sofa beds.
  • Bedroom furniture: bed frames, divan bases, mattresses and bedside cabinets.
  • Storage: wardrobes, chests of drawers, cupboards and bookcases.
  • Tables and desks: dining sets, office furniture and suitable occasional tables.
  • Bulky household items: selected appliances and other agreed belongings.

Large, fragile or unusually heavy items need individual discussion. A photograph, measurements and a description of the construction help us decide what equipment and moving help are appropriate.

🚪 Checking exits, entrances and the carrying route

Before collection, empty drawers and cupboards, remove loose belongings and keep small accessories together. If you have a sofa bed, explain whether the sleeping mechanism is secured for moving. Keep children and pets away from the carrying route, and tell us which pieces must remain in the property. A few minutes of preparation can make loading much more straightforward, especially when the furniture is heavy or the entrance is narrow. Ask beforehand if you are unsure about anything.

One of the most valuable parts of my experience is assessing access. I look beyond the front door: hallway turns, staircases, landings, internal doors and the final position of the furniture can all affect a move.

Before booking, measure the item and the tightest parts of the route. Send photographs of awkward corners rather than simply saying the door is “normal size”. Mention steps outside, communal corridors and any distance between parking and the entrance.

A lift also needs checking. The door opening and cabin must accommodate the furniture, and the building may have rules about moving times. If something appears unsuitable, it is better to discuss that early than arrive with a sofa that cannot be carried through.

My assessment helps identify a workable approach; it is not a promise that every item will fit every property. We agree the practical options before loading where possible.

🔧 Suitable dismantling and sofa preparation

Some beds, corner sofas and recliners have components designed to separate. Removing suitable legs, backs or connecting sections may make handling easier. I have experience with this type of preparation and can assess what is reasonable for the particular furniture.

Dismantling is not automatic. Glued joints, damaged fixings and fragile flat-pack wardrobes can be difficult to take apart without weakening them. Send photographs first and explain whether you have instructions or know how the sections connect.

We agree any dismantling before the job, including whether it affects the price. Small fixings and components should remain together. Electrical recliners should be disconnected from their power supply, with cables and accessories kept ready to travel with the furniture.

🚐 A large van, trolley, straps and blankets

Our Iveco Daily is approximately seven metres long overall, with around 2.2 metres of internal height. This is a large high-roof panel van with useful cargo space for sofas, beds, furniture and boxes. It is not seven metres tall, and the overall length is not the internal loading length.

We carry a moving trolley, protective blankets and securing straps. Suitable equipment helps us handle and organise the load, while blankets and careful positioning help protect furniture in transit.

Equipment choice depends on the route. A trolley is useful on suitable surfaces, but stairs, narrow spaces and uneven ground can require a different approach. We plan around the actual item and property.

👥 One or two movers: choosing the right help

A smaller collection may be suitable for a driver and van with capable help available at both addresses. Heavy sofas, reclining sets and awkward furniture often need two people. Tell us who can assist rather than assuming the seller or recipient will be able to lift.

The Bromsgrove and Walsall jobs described above both involved two movers. That matched the type of furniture being transported and helped the work proceed normally.

We assess additional manpower when arranging the booking. The number of people, carrying distance and handling requirements can affect the quote. For larger loads or unusual access, explain everything you know before the day.

🛍️ Furniture bought from shops or private sellers

We help customers collect suitable purchases from private sellers, furniture shops and online marketplaces. Confirm the item is ready, the collection time is agreed and the seller can provide access. Sending their contact details for coordination can help once the booking is arranged.

For shop collections, check the retailer’s release arrangements and whether furniture is packaged or assembled. For second-hand purchases, ask for photographs of all sections and any damage before paying.

Explore our Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree and eBay collections or single-item delivery service. We can discuss the transport without assuming installation or assembly is included.

💷 Furniture removal prices and booking details

Selected small local jobs can start from £30. A large corner sofa, heavy recliner set or journey between towns needs an individual quote. We price according to the items, distance, access, loading work and number of movers required.

Send both postcodes, clear photographs and your preferred date. Mention stairs, parking restrictions, dismantling and whether help is available. An accurate description is more useful than asking for a price based only on “one sofa”.

Same-day or short-notice bookings may be possible when there is availability. We confirm the arrangement before you rely on collection. If the item list or access changes, tell us promptly so we can check whether the original plan remains suitable.

📍 Birmingham and the wider West Midlands

We work across Birmingham, Halesowen, Oldbury, Smethwick, Dudley, Rowley Regis, West Bromwich, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Kidderminster, Stourbridge, Bromsgrove and surrounding areas. My work throughout the region over nine years includes journeys between neighbouring towns as well as local collections.

See local information for Halesowen, Oldbury, Dudley, Walsall and Kidderminster, or view all areas covered. Your exact postcode helps us plan the journey and quote correctly.

🛣️ Larger moves, students and longer journeys

Furniture transport can be part of a wider move. We also provide house removals, flat moves, office removals and appliance delivery. Let us know if boxes or other belongings need travelling alongside the furniture.

Students can visit Student Man & Van or our Selly Oak student removals page. We also consider long-distance transport to London, Manchester and other UK destinations, with an individual quote for the full journey.

♻️ Keeping your furniture or passing it on?

This page covers moving furniture for you, whether between homes or from a seller. If you no longer want a usable item, our unwanted furniture collection page explains a separate reuse service. Acceptance and any free collection depend on assessment.

We do not provide rubbish removal, waste clearance or tip runs. Items intended for disposal should not be added to a furniture transport booking. Please explain clearly whether you want delivery elsewhere or want to pass the item on.

❓ Furniture removals: common questions

Can you move an electric recliner?

Suitable recliners can be transported after assessing weight, removable parts and property access. Additional moving help may be required.

Can you transport a corner sofa bed?

Yes, suitable models can be considered. Send dimensions, photographs and details of any separable sections.

Do I need two movers?

That depends on the item and access. Tell us whether capable help is available at both addresses.

Can furniture be moved upstairs?

We assess the furniture, staircase and landings first. Not every combination of item and access is suitable.
