♻️ A practical way to pass on unwanted furniture

Replacing a sofa, moving home or making space does not always mean your old furniture has reached the end of its useful life. A solid wardrobe, clean bed or working washing machine may still be valuable to another household. Adrian Man & Van offers a straightforward way to discuss collection without trying to fit bulky items into your car.

Based in Halesowen, we assess each enquiry individually. Send clear photographs, your postcode and access details, and we will tell you whether the items are suitable, whether collection can be free and what arrangements are needed. We can consider single pieces, several household items or an agreed selection from a property.

This is a reusable-item collection service. The condition of your belongings matters more than simply wanting them gone. Please describe damage honestly so we can make a useful decision before travelling.

🛋️ Furniture and household items we can consider

We welcome enquiries about the following items when they are clean, complete and suitable for continued use. Every collection must be agreed first; this list is not a guarantee that every item will be accepted.

Wardrobes and bedroom furniture

Freestanding wardrobes, chests of drawers, bedside cabinets, dressing tables and bedroom storage. Doors, shelves and drawers should be present, with a structure strong enough to move and reuse.

Beds and mattresses

Bed frames, divan bases and selected mattresses. Please show the whole item, its condition and any relevant labels. Stained, damp, heavily worn or damaged mattresses are unsuitable.

Sofas and seating

Standard sofas, corner sofas, sofa beds, recliners and armchairs. Send photos of the upholstery, cushions, feet and any damage, together with the fire safety label where applicable.

Tables and everyday furniture

Dining tables, chairs, desks, bookcases, TV units and suitable household furniture. Small signs of normal use may be acceptable; missing parts or serious damage need discussing first.

A useful photograph shows more than the front. Include the sides, any worn areas and the inside of drawers or cupboards where relevant. Measurements help us assess both van space and whether an item will pass through your door.

🔌 Washing machines, fridges and other appliances

We can consider working washing machines, fridges, fridge freezers and other suitable household appliances. Tell us the make, approximate age, dimensions and whether everything works correctly. Please mention leaks, unusual noises, damaged plugs, broken shelves or missing parts rather than leaving those details until collection day.

Appliances should be clean and empty. Fridges and freezers need appropriate preparation before transport, while washing machines must be disconnected and drained beforehand. If you are unsure about preparation, ask when booking. We do not promise plumbing, electrical disconnection or repairs as part of a collection.

Heavy appliances, especially American-style fridge freezers, require careful planning. Door widths, steps and floor levels can affect the number of people needed. For an appliance you want delivered to another address rather than passed on, see our appliance delivery service.

💷 When is collection free, and when is there a fee?

Selected local collections can be free when the items are suitable for reuse and the collection is practical to arrange. Approval depends on condition, demand, the quantity involved, location and access. Sending photographs first helps us avoid unnecessary journeys and gives you a clear answer.

A collection fee may be needed for a longer journey, difficult stairs, lengthy carrying distances, additional manpower, substantial dismantling or other work beyond a straightforward local collection. A large quantity of items can also require a different arrangement. We will explain any proposed charge before you decide whether to book.

The word “free” does not mean we can collect every item from every location at no cost. Equally, paying a fee does not turn an unsuitable or broken item into something we can accept. Any charge relates to the agreed collection and transport of approved reusable goods, not rubbish disposal.

When requesting a quote, include everything you want collected. Adding another wardrobe or a second-floor appliance later may change the plan. Clear information allows us to confirm the service accurately.

🔧 Dismantling beds, wardrobes and bulky sofas

Some useful furniture cannot leave a property in one piece. I have experience dismantling suitable beds, wardrobes, corner sofas and sofa beds when their design allows this. Removable sofa sections, backs, legs or bed components can sometimes make a difficult collection manageable.

Please send photographs before assuming dismantling is included. Flat-pack furniture, older joints, glued panels and damaged fittings can be fragile. Some wardrobes will not tolerate disassembly, and some sofa mechanisms should not be taken apart unnecessarily. We assess what can reasonably be done and agree the work in advance.

Where dismantling is suitable, parts and fixings need to stay together so the furniture remains reusable. Tell us if you have assembly instructions or specialist fittings. For heavy items, awkward stairs or restricted access, an additional helper may be required and a fee may apply.

🚚 A large van and practical moving equipment

Our large Iveco Daily is approximately seven metres long overall, with around 2.2 metres of internal height. Its high-roof loading space is useful for furniture, appliances and multiple household items. The overall vehicle length should not be confused with the internal cargo length.

We use moving equipment including straps, protective blankets and a trolley where appropriate. Planning is still essential: a large van does not make every staircase, doorway or item manageable. We need to know where we can park, how far the items must be carried and whether there is a lift.

Keep access routes clear before we arrive. Remove belongings from drawers and wardrobes, keep pets away from the loading route and tell us about any restricted parking or building rules.

🤝 Donation, helping families and second-hand resale

Reusable furniture can follow different routes after collection. Some items may be offered to charity organisations, others may be passed to families who need household essentials, and some may be resold as second-hand furniture. We are transparent about these possibilities rather than suggesting every collected item is a charity donation.

Resale helps make practical collections possible and gives serviceable items another useful life. Donation and redistribution can help households furnish a room without buying everything new. The eventual destination depends on condition, suitability and what receiving organisations or households need.

If you want an item donated to a particular charity, tell us before booking. Acceptance and delivery arrangements must be confirmed with that organisation. We cannot guarantee a named recipient, a charitable receipt or a particular destination unless a specific arrangement has been agreed.

📍 Collection across Birmingham and nearby areas

We consider enquiries across Birmingham and the West Midlands, including Halesowen, Dudley, Oldbury, Smethwick, Rowley Regis, Cradley Heath, Quinton, Bearwood, Stourbridge, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and Walsall. Collection availability depends on the items and our schedule.

Visit our areas covered page or see local information for Halesowen, Dudley and Rowley Regis. Longer-distance enquiries are welcome, but a transport fee may be needed.

📸 How to arrange your collection

  1. Send photographs. Show every item, damage, measurements and relevant labels.
  2. Share the location. Include your postcode, floor level, stairs, lift and parking details.
  3. Explain the work. Tell us about dismantling, heavy appliances and your preferred date.
  4. Wait for confirmation. We agree accepted items, collection arrangements and any fee before booking.

Only offer items you own or have permission to pass on. Keep them indoors and protected until the agreed collection. Wet furniture left outside can become unsuitable for reuse.

🚫 Clear limits: no rubbish or disposal collections

We do not provide rubbish removal, waste clearance or tip runs. We do not collect black bags of rubbish, construction debris, hazardous materials, fly-tipped waste or broken items intended for disposal. Please do not add these to an agreed furniture collection.

If you are clearing a property, we can discuss collecting an approved selection of reusable furniture and appliances. This is not a promise to empty the entire property or remove everything left behind. Our focus remains usable household goods.
